I Was a Self-Help Junkie

“When you start curling up with Dr. Phil on a nightly basis, it’s time to rewrite the rules of self-improvement,” says Linda Formichelli who wrote the article I Was a Self-Help Junkie.
I can certainly relate to parts of it:
- Teetering stacks of self-help books
- Self-help books give me a kind of high
- But the high wears off when the book ends
- I can spend more time reading about how to live my life than actually living it.
From the article:
Dr. Hope suggests I start by trading in the literature of transformation for a damn good book. When you’re looking for something to read, do you want to engage your imagination, or, in her words, “read something that makes you realize your life is inadequate”?
My reading life includes a wide menagerie of (as my sister would say) “trashy novels” too. At least I am balanced! Read the article and tell me what you think. It is a fun read and an interesting insight of something good taken too far.
