The post I wrote the other day on Virginity Pledgers reminded me of chapter out of Andy Rooney’s book Years of Minutes.


Here is Andy talking about The Promise Keepers and their resolve.


I wish resolving to do something helped but it hardly ever does. When I resolve to lose weight or resolve to clean out the garage, it never results in me getting thin or in the garage being clean.

The leaders of the organization that calls itself “Promise Keepers” did a lot of resolving in Washington last weekend. They asked God to make the men in the audience better people and they asked the men themselves to resolve to be better people.

Asking a bunch of men to promise to be nicer to their wives isnt going to work any better than me promising to clean out my garage and I certainly dont believe asking God to make them better will help, either. God has enough to do.
