Safety Until Ready

Journaling is a safe way to express negative feelings and half-formed thoughts until you are ready to communicate them to others in a healthy and constructive way.

Getting your thoughts down on paper can help you formulate what it is you really want to say. You can go ahead and express those negative feelings, because what you “say” won’t hurt anybody. You can carry on an argument with yourself or with “whoever” and work it out so it all comes out right, instead of having to eat your words later because you tried to make a point with half-formed thoughts.

Trying things out on paper first is a good way to improve your communication skills. Just like somebody giving a speech, first the speechwriter makes notes on what he is going to say and then he practices out loud.

So go ahead and get it all out on paper, sort through it, try out different responses and then formulate some well thought out responses.
