Don’t Fight

Recognize when you are fighting reality. What is fighting with reality? Resisting what is.
It is; and you can’t change it: someone else got the promotion, horrible neighbors moved in next door, your daughter flunked out of college, Bush is our president, it’s raining again, whatever.
Recognizing when you are fighting reality is the difference between guaranteed misery and a life of contentment. There is no chance that fighting reality is going to make you feel better.
“You can hate the truth, you can talk about it, and you can resist it until you are blue in the face. You can complain and look for sympathy, stomp your feet, feel like a victim, and spend the rest of your life feeling sad, depressed, angry, and resentful. But none of this is going to change anything.”
In other words, there is no point in banging your head against a wall. Once you begin to understand what you can’t do, what you can’t change, you can then make a decision about what you will do.
