No Regrets

We waste so much time and energy feeling guilt and remorse over the past, over things that happen in the natural course of life, over things we cannot change.

Every time we think and rethink and think again about something we regret, something we wish we had done or something we wish we hadn’t, the emotional impact of your thoughts continue to grow. The more we pay attention to something, the harder it is to stop thinking about it. How do we get out of that cycle? Take a step forward.

When you start to think about something you regret, stop yourself. Remember that you can’t go back and change it. Give yourself a pep talk that emphasizes living in the here and now.

Here’s an affirmation Richard Carlson wrote:

“I choose to believe that everything that happened in my life happened for a reason. I have made good decisions that support a positive, wonderful life. I will not look back, unless it is to learn or appreciate something or to teach someone else a valuable life lesson.”
